Unlike Biden and Kamala, Daddy DeSantis just can’t miss. What? He took unlawful actions in violation of the First Amendment? Shut up, nerd. Considering that Ron’s presumptive opponent in 2024 talks to the dead, I think most independent voters will look past such nitty gritty details. Yea, but what if Kamala is the nominee?! Shockingly, she has somehow managed to have an even lower approval rating than Uncle Joe. Besides all that, who on either side cares about the Constitution in this era of populism?
What about Trump?
DeSantis has overtaken 45 in fundraising this year and beat him in all age groupings in a yuge poll a few months ago. That was before Ron stole Don’s signature issue (the border) by mailing 48 illegals to Martha’s Vineyard. Even Severus Snape donated a few galleons to Ron’s campaign after that impressive display of darkness. Next, Mother Nature decided to contribute—Hurricane Ian arrived only a month before the midterms, providing an opportunity for Gov. DeSantis to combine genuine leadership with his political savvy. In his bid for reelection, DeSantis is positioned to beat his Democratic opponent by considerably more than Trump beat Biden in Florida in 2020.
It also doesn’t hurt that Trump is still…trumping. Just a few nights ago the former president said Mitch McConnell must have a death wish for supporting legislation introduced by Democrats. Trump also referred to Elaine Chao, a former member of his cabinet and McConnell’s wife, as Coco Chow. I don’t know if you can get CTE from grabbing too much pussy, but that’s about the only theory for explaining Trump’s behavior that I have left. Maybe he should ask Antonio Brown.
Aren’t there other rising Republicans? Couldn’t Biden be challenged, or die?
Sure.
And in the contest for the presidency, it’s still only pre-season so there are probably a few unknown unknowns yet to be encountered. I could be completely wrong about DeSantis’ trajectory. I was certainly wrong about the outcome in 2016 and I hope I’m wrong this time. But I won’t hold my breath while you try to think of a more probable outcome than Governor DeSantis becoming 47.
Below are links to Episode 6 of Winged Radicals, “Throw Like a Girl.”
